Our project
In 1944, George was the youngest person ever executed in The United States. At only 14 years old, he was given a short trial, convicted with no physical evidence connecting him to the crime, and sentenced to death. There was no transcript recorded for this trial, and no appeal was made while he was on death row. George's journey through the judicial system ended when he was propped up with books to fit in an electric chair. In 2014 the case was revisited, George was exonerated, and the ruling was overturned.
George's family was unable to win a wrongful death case against South Carolina and has not recieved any compensation for their loss.
We will tell the whole story using exclusive interviews of George's family. This is the only project about with the authorization and participation from the family. With the help of experts, the system that caused this tragedy will be explained.
